Mirror's Edge (X360)

"Swings wildly from being totally exhilarating to frustrating as hell. Free running is awesome, but it's broken up by unbalanced combat, bad pathfinding, and weird paper cutout cutscenes. Forget the story mode, the time trials are the game we wanted. "

Portal: Still Alive (X360)

"The original Portal with extra bits. Fun as always, but without GLaDoS for the Still Alive levels, they feel sterile and empty."

Dead Space (PC)

"I know it's going to scare the bejeezus out of me, but maybe I can play it from behind the sofa?"

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -- Trials and Tribulations (DS)

"Easily the best of the series. Even more twists and turns, and more memorable characters, especially Godot. Having a recurring villain worked nicely too, and tied all the trials together superbly."

Psychonauts (PC)

"A psychic summer camp, telekinetic bears, a lab assistant called 'Sheegor', mindscapes that look like boot camps or dance parties... it doesn't need them, because it has the one and only Sasha Nein. "

Grim Fandango (PC)

"Film noir, Aztec mythology, calavera dolls, fast cars, and 1930s style jazz. Only Tim Schafer could come up with something this bizarrely brilliant."

Jade Empire

"Pretty and imaginative, with a missing spark. The combat wasn't bad, but... there were too many party members; you lost track of everyone. Still, the Dirge section was impressive, music is great and graphics are lovely."

Bioshock (PC)

"Eeeeek. Scary and immersive and gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Finally a game that doesn't treat you like a gun-toting moron. Besides, the Big Daddy is one of the best enemy designs I've seen."

Fable II (X360)

"Here's hoping it's better than the first one. Pub games are a giggle though."

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

"Lego. Star Wars. Fun on their own, but put them together, and you have a game that gives you an achievement for smashing Jar Jar Binks into Lego bits."

Neverwinter Nights (PC)

"A fun ride but one I keep jumping off before the end. If not for the lovely music and good character development I might not have got that far. Not bad but it's no Baldur's Gate."

Overlord

"You have a horde of minions who smash things and wear the stuff they find as armour, including pots and pans, pumpkins, and in one memorable case, a woman's bra. What's not to like?"

Portal (PC)

"Portal, we love you. Never change, you're perfect as you are."

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (PC)

"Looks outdated now, but it's an RTS with a strong vision of the future and a great storyline. I love the tech advances and all the science behind them. Kills me that it won't run on my virtual PC."

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (X360)

"Playing it on the DS. It's fun but not as deep as other Sid Meier games I've enjoyed... makes me miss Alpha Centauri."

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)

"The game that made me fall in love with Star Wars again (the ORIGINAL movies, I mean, I'm not crazy). Fun planets, memorable characters, and a story twist to make your eyes pop out."

Characters:

Ressa Ismene, — Scout / Jedi Guardian. I've gone Jedi Sentinel before, but Force Jump swayed the choice there, and being a scout gives you techy skills too. She usually carries a double-bladed blue saber, and has that cool black-with-electric-blue-accents exoskeletal armour from the Yavin Station DLC.

The Longest Journey

"My favourite adventure game, ever. Nicely written with lovely graphics for its time and some incredibly memorable characters -- enough to let me write five near-novel-length fan stories for it. "

Baldur's Gate (PC)

"This whole series was outstanding. Throne of Bhaal gave a solid ending to a wonderful series. Characters, music, story -- everything. I was a female rogue and Use Any Item made me invincible."

Mass Effect (X360)

"The best graphics, characters and interaction I've ever enjoyed. Annoyed I can't play the PC version and am stuck with the 360 interface, but I'm still a kickass female vanguard with her own ship."

Characters:

Riane Shepard, — The only time I've ever played a really Renegade character... felt very weird but my boyfriend encouraged me to try it. Riane's a Soldier with Singularity.

Rowan Shepard, — Rowan is a Vanguard with AI Hacking, and she's pretty much unstoppable. Used to use a pistol exclusively because I like to be able to aim, but she's switched over to a shotgun and it suits her nicely in CQC. If characters can be carried over to ME2, Rowan's the one I'm taking.
